Daily Prompt: Being Decisive!

Daily Prompt: Describe the one decision in your life where you wish you could get a “do-over.” Tell us about the decision, and why you’d choose to take a different path this time around.

Standing up for myself is probably the one thing I wish I could do more of – the thing is, I barely ever do.

Once upon a time, (about a year ago), a few of my friends and I held two cake sales for Comic Relief. We had two evenings where we literally baked from about four in the afternoon to half ten at night. We made hundreds of cupcakes, flapjacks, cookies, sponge cake, rocky roads, etc, (I’m just making myself hungry now!), so many that we ran out of room in the kitchen. For them two nights, we went home exhausted.

The first cake sale was lovely.

The second cake sale was also great- up until the end. A girl we know had turned up at the beginning of the sale with six cupcakes to sell. Of course, that was fine and it was charitable so we were all happy. But then some of the teachers started asking whose idea it was and how much we’d raised so far – and she literally wouldn’t let us get a word in edgeways. I am honestly not exaggerating here – she was making out as if she had baked all the cakes! Luckily the teachers knew that she hadn’t so it wasn’t too much of a big deal. We were used to it anyway.

However, five minutes later my friend and I asked for the tub of money we had raised that day so that we could take out five pounds each to cover the cost of some of the ingredients we had bought to bake the cakes.

“You can’t do that!” The girl screamed. “It’s STEALING”

We calmly tried to explain to her that it wasn’t stealing and that actual charities do this too. She just wasn’t having it.

“Fine!” She snapped and took out the two notes and slammed the down on the table in front of us. The teachers stood there in amazement. The girl glared at us and stormed off. To say I was angry is an understatement. But because it is me, I just took the money and quietly fumed away to my friends about it. What is worse is that the girl had taken the money we had raised. When we asked her for it after the weekend, she said she had already sent it off to Comic Relief. I don’t like arguments but I would have liked to put my point across. I regret so much that I did not make the decision to stand up for myself!
