Daily Prompt: Whether a person, a pet, an object, or a place, write about something or someone you connected with from the very first second.
Just under seven years ago, my family and I drove up to Buxton in the Peak District one night after school. We were going to choose a whippet puppy from a very isolated house in the hills – our first ever pet other than goldfish!
When we arrived, we saw several puppies attempting to scare us away with their squeaky barks, but we were led through the house and into another room, full of bleary-eyed whippet babies. They told us which ones had already been chosen and which ones were still up for grabs. And that’s when we saw him. He was the oldest out of his siblings but just as adorable – he’d just woken up so his eyes were all red and droopy but he still made his way over to us, (treading over his brothers and sisters on the way). We all held him whilst his brother, Dexter, undid my shoelaces, and he started to fall asleep in our arms, (something he still loves to do now). I had never seen such a gormless and cute creature in my life. The breeder then told us that she’d nicknamed him cuddles, because he loved to snuggle up to her whenever he could. Safe to say, we had our eyes set on him and three weeks later we drove him home. We called him Toby and he is still just as gormless and sweet today!
