Daily Prompt: Being Quick!

Daily Prompt: Our weekly free-write is back: take ten minutes — no pauses! — to write about anything, unfiltered and unedited. You can then publish the post as-is, or edit a bit first — your call.

I wrote this poem in my creative writing lesson today. We were timed to write it in eight minutes so by the time I type it out, that should be ten!

Hands

Like the exploration of maps,

Smooth but worn cover protects beneath,

The stretching contours of the palm

And neither are identical.

Four knuckles spread like rolling hills,

The base of wrinkled joints and nails

And piano playing fingers

Touched the brass of trumpet instead.

Long nails leave their marks on my skin,

Accidentally scarring it

Like thin crevices in paper

Or fissures in the sweep of land.

A dune of skin on my finger,

A clue to the writing I do

A landmark for inspiration

And creativity too.
