Daily Prompt: Being Daily!

Daily Prompt: What’s the longest stretch you’ve ever pulled off of posting daily to your blog? What did you learn about blogging through that achievement, and what made you break the streak?

I have posted every day to my blog – although this isn’t technically true. When I go on holiday and have little access to Wi-Fi, I don’t even bother. It’s nice to take a break for a while and gives me more ideas for when I get back. The problem with this is, I always go back and catch up on all the Daily Prompts that I’ve missed – which can be fourteen at a time! I schedule each post to be published on the day the prompt was put up, so it looks like I haven’t missed a day!

(I’m actually writing this on December 1st)

Daily Prompt: Being Stuck!

Daily Prompt: You were caught in an avalanche. To be rescued, you need to make it through the night. What thought(s) would give you the strength to go through such a scary, dangerous situation?

Ironically, that thought would be Christmas. I’d sing some Christmassy tunes, think of my family, the decorations, the lights and of course, the food.

That would get me through it!

(Can you tell I’m excited yet?)

Daily Prompt: Being Leftover!

Daily Prompt: Today, publish a post based on unused material from a previous piece –a paragraph you nixed, a link you didn’t include, a photo you decided not to use. Let your leftovers shine!

So I just looked and it turns out I have no drafts, no links, no leftovers whatsoever. I’m sorry, this isn’t very exciting! Once I start a post, I have to finish it and that usually means using everything that was meant to go in it. I would say I don’t like waste but that’s not entirely true – I’m really craving some leftover Christmas dinner now!

Daily Prompt: Being Grateful!

Daily Prompt: Is there a person you should’ve thanked, but never had the chance? Is there someone who helped you along the way without even realizing it? Here’s your chance to express your belated gratitude.

When I was about eight, my Grandad asked me to play my trumpet in the band he’s in as a one off. So I did and it was surprisingly fun! Anyway, at the break one of my Grandad’s friends bought me a scone with jam and cream (it was at a summer fête) completely out of the blue. I didn’t know what to say. I was a very shy child and really found it difficult to talk to people I didn’t know, so I sort of just took the plate, gave him an awkward smile and just stood next to him eating it. I cringe at the thought of it now, although I don’t think the man thought anything of it. So that’s who I’d thank – the man with the scone!

Daily Prompt: Being Elaborate!

Daily Prompt: What’s the most elaborate, complicated meal you’ve ever cooked? Was it a triumph for the ages, or a colossal fiasco? Give us the behind-the-scenes story (pictures are welcome, of course).

I’ve not had much experience in cooking. The most elaborate meal I cooked (with the help of my sister) was a three course meal for six people on Mother’s Day. We made a broccoli and stilton soup for starters, a spiced sausage and tomato pasta for the main and a raspberry and chocolate Eton Mess for pudding. I have to say, it was all quite tasty (even though we slightly burnt the pasta). The only downside was the amount of washing up to do afterwards! Saying that I should probably get used to it – hopefully I’ll be preparing my own food next year at university!Mothers day meal (2)

Daily Prompt: Being Useful!

Daily Prompt: Have you ever faced a difficult situation when you had to choose between sorting it out yourself, or asking someone else for an easy fix? What did you choose — and would you make the same choice today?

I almost always do it myself, not because I don’t want an easy fix but because I feel bad asking other people to do it for me! There is an exception though – my parents. I feel guilty saying it but I do take advantage of them sometimes. Mostly it is just for money purposes, like getting my dad to photocopy things at his work rather than use my printer credits at college! But sometimes, if my mum is going out shopping, I will give her a list of things to buy for me! I always pay her back though…

Daily Prompt: Being Risky!

Daily Prompt: When was the last time you took a risk (big or small), and pushed your own boundaries — socially, professionally, or otherwise? Were you satisfied with the outcome?

I ate lasagne the other week… and I don’t like mincemeat?!

I’m just not a risk taker. I like to play it safe in most things, mainly because I’m scared that if I do take a risk it’ll backfire massively and end in me crying somewhere! I would like to start pushing my own boundaries more. I suppose the other day I drove the car by myself (I’m still learning) and it all went well despite me and my family being slightly nervous beforehand! I think if I was invited to more parties I would push myself into talking to people I’d never met before.

Now someone just has to invite me to one!

Daily Prompt: Being a Storyteller!

Daily Prompt: What makes a good storyteller, in your opinion? Are your favorite storytellers people you know or writers you admire?

A good storyteller can be…

  • someone who does not speak monotonously (an important one for me)
  • someone who has exciting and timeless stories to tell
  • anyone who can spin a story out of words…
  • or anything for that matter! Art and photographs can tell stories too!

Daily Prompt: Being Thankful!

Daily Prompt: Whether it’s a trashy TV show, extra-pulpy fiction, or nutrient-free candy, write a thank-you note to your guiltiest guilty pleasure.

Dear Jerry Springer,

Thank you so much for all the hours spent sitting in open-mouthed shock, laughing/cringing at the guests on your show. You never fail to entertain. Sometimes it’s nice to just get away from the lie detector and DNA tests of Jeremy Kyle and switch to something with a bit more…oomph. I mean, you can always anticipate a wig being lost in the process of a fight, the revealing of incestuous love and even some indecent exposure  – not only from the fighters, but also from outgoing members of the audience. The best thing about it? Absolutely nothing gets resolved.

Daily Prompt: Being Theatrical!

Daily Prompt: If your life were a movie, what would its soundtrack be like? What songs, instrumental pieces, and other sound effects would be featured on the official soundtrack album?

My soundtrack would probably be a fast-paced combination of screeching violins, theatrical compositions and ideally “Battle Without Honor or Humanity” playing to every entrance I make!
