Daily Prompt: Being Heroic!

Daily Prompt: Tell us about the time you rescued someone else (person or animal) from a dangerous situation. What happened? How did you prevail?

A few weeks ago, just before Christmas, my Aunt and Uncle came to visit us from Bristol. We were all sitting in our living room, Christmas lights twinkling, candles flickering and our dog asleep on his bed, when there was a loud sound, sort of like a half rip half crash. Before our eyes, the huge mirror which hung above the fireplace fell off the wall (coincidentally above where the dog was lying) . When people say that scary things happen in slow motion, they aren’t lying. I watched as the metal cord from which it hung snapped and saw one side of the frame hit the mantelpiece, followed by the other. Toby, our dog, must have sensed it, because he jumped up and began to back away, but it was still falling and he was stood underneath it. In the second that followed, I leapt off my sofa, lunged towards the dog, managed to grab a bit of his bum and pull him half out of the way. He ran into a corner just as the mirror fell out of the frame and both came crashing onto his bed. Scary.
