Daily Prompt: Describe a memory or encounter in which you considered your faith, religion, spirituality — or lack of — for the first time.
I consider it a lot – I don’t remember the first time. Sometimes I look at the small Bible tucked away in the top corner of my parent’s bookshelf and wonder, if it is all just a story, how someone managed to come up with so many pages of characters and tales, then distribute it and convince everyone else to believe it as well. Other times I think back to one particular RE lesson – our teacher was telling us about a man named William Paley who said:
‘If you were walking on a heath and saw a watch on the ground you would assume that its parts had not come together by chance because it is too ordered and complicated. Therefore someone must have designed it or it would not work. Because the universe is also ordered and complicated, someone must have designed that too. That ‘someone’ is God.’
I quite like this idea, but it is still not enough to make me believe fully. I think I will probably remain an agnostic for a while to come – always waiting to witness a true miracle!
