Daily Prompt: Tell us about a sensation — a taste, a smell, a piece of music — that transports you back to childhood.
Ooh, where to start. Every song from the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film transports me back to a time when I was ten – that was our performance for the year six leaver’s production. We had to memorise each Oompa Loompa song and sing them continuously on three consecutive nights. I’m still not quite sure how I feel about them. Taste – I’m sure I’m not the only one who remembers pink wafers from their childhood. There was just something about them that made every kid love them – I’ve not tried one for years! And finally, we come to smell. This one doesn’t strictly transport me back to my childhood, but rather to every summer in my life so far, and hopefully many more to come! It’s the smell of damp earth and plants after it has been raining – I always find the smell is stronger when the sun comes out soon after. Apparently, this is called ‘Petrichor’, something I learned from Pinterest a few days ago. You really do learn something new everyday!
