Daily Prompt: Being Predictive!

Daily Prompt: Back on January 21st, we asked you to predict what day #211 would be like. Well, July 30th is that day — how have your predictions held up so far? If you didn’t reply to the prompt at the time, is this year turning out to be as you’d expected?

Well, I actually just posted this photo in response to the prompt on January 21st:

Although I’m not exactly on a beach right now, I am enjoying my summer holidays and I go away to Cornwall on Saturday for a whole two weeks – woohoo! So I’d say my ‘prediction’, (if you can call it that), is not too far off!

Daily Prompt: Being Struck!

Daily Prompt: You’re at the beach with some friends and/or family, enjoying the sun, nibbling on some watermelon. All of a sudden, within seconds, the weather shifts and hale starts descending form the sky. Write a post about what happens next.

Well, I assume I’d be with my family and so we’d have our little beach tent up, and as it began to hale all four of us, (as well as the dog), would squash into it as best we could and just wait for it to stop. There’s always the case of sitting in the most cramped positions possible and watching as everyone else on the beach does exactly the same thing, but it does add an element of fun to the day! I’ve experienced this so many times on holiday – not as extreme as hale, but we have been caught up in thunderstorms before!

Daily Prompt: Being Scented!

Daily Prompt: From the yeasty warmth of freshly baked bread to the clean, summery haze of lavender flowers, we all have favorite smells we find particularly comforting. What’s yours?

Mine are slightly weird. My first one is the smell of freshly cleaned bed quilts when I’m snuggling down at night with my Youtube videos after a very tiring day. My second is the combination between that summery smell of flowers and rain with the slight scent of tarmac. It’s probably because I love living in the city but at the same time I have travelled to the country all my life! If I smell ether of these, I feel instantly at home.

Daily Prompt: Being Inventive!

Daily Prompt:Today, you can write about whatever you what — but your post must include, in whatever role you see fit, a cat, a bowl of soup, and a beach towel.

As I lie stretched out on my towel, enjoying the sound of sand as it crunches beneath me, I pull myself up into a sitting position to take a peek into other people’s lives. A man launches himself into the air to catch a ball his son has just lobbed at him; a large group coo over a sweet little toddler discovering driftwood for the first time – and then there are the young girls. Legs obviously soaked in fake tan, they meander there way along the beach with the forced elegance of a group of street cats, wearing nothing but bikinis and bug-like sunglasses, trying to catch the attention of every guy they pass. I sigh. Do they ever get bored of it? Trying so hard? It’s not even that warm. As if on cue, a shadow passes over the sea and makes its way up the shoreline. One minute. Two minutes. Then a spot of rain. Then two. And then a downpour. Everyone takes out their umbrellas in unison, bunching together to all keep try. Except for the girls of course. I take a sip of my cuppa soup and watch as they shiver in the rain, wearing nothing but bikinis and bug-like sunglasses. I could swear I saw the tan on one girl’s legs start to run. I don’t think they’ll ever learn.

Daily Prompt: Being Flavoursome!

Daily Prompt: A local ice cream parlor invites you to create a new wacky flavor. It needs to channel the very essence of your personality. What’s in it?

I’m sure almost every flavour of ice cream possible has already been created – nowadays when you go into an ice cream shop there is so much choice! But, after thinking long and hard, I have finally come to a decision. On Mother’s Day, I made a raspberry Eton mess, but because my sister doesn’t like raspberries, I melted Cadbury chocolate into hers instead. Then, because I had so much left over, I added it to everyone else’s – and it was amazing! Honestly, try it. It’s delicious. So that would be my ice cream flavour – I’d call it ‘Chocoberry Mess’!

Daily Prompt: Being Fruity!

Daily Prompt: Soft drinks, electronics, nutrient-free snacks — you can get all of those from a vending machine. But what type of vending machine is sorely needed but doesn’t yet exist? Share your automated retail fantasies with us!

I don’t know if these exist already, but I’ve never seen a vending machine selling pots of fresh fruit. I always crave fruit salad when it’s sunny out and although it’d probably be difficult in terms of freshness and preserving, how great would it be? They should also sell cream and yoghurt in the vending machine so you could make a nice snack out of it – strawberries and cream, mmm!

Daily Prompt: Being Seasonal!

Daily Prompt: S’mores, salty ocean breezes, veggie burgers on the grill, sweaty people on the bus — what’s the smell you associate the most with summer?

I don’t know if anyone else can relate with this, but it’s that smell when you stand out in the garden or lean out of the window at night. It’s a weird combination of flowers and rain and summery things – it’s a bit hard to describe but it always reminds me of summer!

Daily Prompt: Being Summery!

Daily Prompt: Today’s Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere). How are you taking advantage of the extra hours of light this time of year? Do you like it, or do you already miss earlier sunsets?

I like it!

Although I don’t really stay up any later – I need my sleep!

I like watching the pretty skies when the sun sets at around nine in the evening, and sometimes I just blast out summery songs, (which is most of the content on my iPod), whilst sitting in my room doing homework. In a couple of weeks, I’m taking part in a month long programme called the National Citizen Service. For the first week, we go camping in the Peak District so I’m sort of looking forward to the sunny evenings, dancing around the campfire and singing songs! Let’s just hope it doesn’t rain and I actually make friends while I’m there – I don’t know anyone!

Daily Prompt: Being Sunny!

Daily Prompt: The idea that the weather and people’s moods are connected is quite old. Do you agree? If yes, how does the weather affect your mood?

It’s funny, because a question similar to this came up in preparation for my German speaking exam, (random, I know!). When my German teacher asked our class whether we were affected by it, half the class said yes and the other half said no. So for some people, I do believe their moods and the weather are connected, (pathetic fallacy and all), just not for others, including me. It rains a lot in England, (apparently 200 days a year), so for my mood to be affected by this I would probably be grumpy the majority of the time! There’s no point! I mean, I probably am a bit happier when the sun is out, but isn’t everyone?

Daily Prompt: Being Decisive (once again)!

Daily Prompt: We all have complicated histories. When was the last time your past experiences informed a major decision you’ve made?

I’m afraid to say I don’t know. Perhaps I’m too young to have made any major decisions in my life yet, but I’m sure the answer is just around the corner!
