Daily Prompt: Being Worldly!

Daily Prompt: The friendly, English-speaking extraterrestrial you run into outside your house is asking you to recommend the one book, movie, or song that explains what humans are all about. What do you pick?

The Heart Never Lies – by McFly, of course.

The reason for this is that I was once listening to it as we drove through the mountains of the Lake District, and as we did I thought to myself: ‘If I ever have an alien exchange partner, I’m going to drive them up here and blast out this song.’ Yes, my mind is random like that, but the song itself says it all!

Daily Prompt: Being Helped!

Daily Prompt: When was the last time a stranger did something particularly kind, generous, or selfless for you? Tell us what happened!

Actually, yesterday my sister and I were helped by two people we had never met before! Even though they worked in the shops we were in, they definitely did not have to help us like they did. I now see customer service in a whole new light!

The first time, we went into the bookstore Waterstones and, after searching around for quite a while, asked the woman on the till if they had any books by this certain author we were looking for. She searched for us and told us that unfortunately they did not, but then she went on to Google herself to see why, (apparently his books had gone a bit obsolete after he died). After this, she noted down a few names of online book stores that might have what we were searching for – and all of this with one of the cheeriest attitudes I have ever seen by a shop assistant!

The second time we went into Pulp. As we walked through the door the alarm went off. The shop assistant in there came straight over to us and told us there must still be a tag left on a box set I had bought in HMV earlier, (the customer service there had not been great). Again, this woman had the brightest smile and told us that she would remove the tag for us to save us any hassle. I love customer service when it’s like this!

And, to top it all of, the bus driver let us travel for free because he was seven minutes late!

Daily Prompt: Being Happy Again!

Daily Prompt: What is the one word or phrase that immediately cheers you up when you hear it?

Whenever somebody mentions it, I can just picture everything; evening walks along a beach; colourful holiday cottages; sunshine, sand and sea; watching seals from a coast path… and the list goes on!

It really does help to think of Summer!

Daily Prompt: Being Decisive!

Daily Prompt: If you could split your time evenly between two places, and two places only, which would these be?

I don’t really like being decisive!

I would love to spend half my time in Bristol – it is very much a quirky, artistic city with so much to do!

My second place would be St Ives in Cornwall, because of the scenery and the seaside and all of the lovely little holiday houses there!

Daily Prompt: Being Proud!

Daily Prompt: What’s your most prized possession? GO!

I want to name a few as I don’t like leaving things out, but I’ve managed to narrow it down to just two…

First is Monty, the teddy I got when I was just a teeny little baby in a hospital cot. He is older than me yet he still has his squeak and is surprisingly intact for saying I have had him for over seventeen years! I’m not afraid to admit that I still find it difficult to sleep without him, (and several other cuddly creatures who I have had to leave out of this post), and he has even starred in one of my previous daily prompt posts, (about soul mates I think)!

Second is… my signed McFly programme from their Keep Calm and Play Louder Tour. And I think I’m so proud of this because I didn’t just order a pre-signed item – I actually got on a train and travelled the 127 miles from Nottingham to London, then had to track down the hotel the meet and greet was being held at… and finally MET THEM! And they even wrote ‘To Ruby’! I’m sorry, it was just a very exciting and momentous time in my short life!

Daily Prompt: Being a Traveller!

Daily Prompt: Tell us about the top five places you’ve always wanted to visit. GO!

Ooh… this one is going to be difficult as I have only been out of Britain twice – once to Paris on a school trip and once to a German town in the south called Knittlingen, (that was on a German exchange). I loved both trips. I like to think that my lack of travel outside of Scotland, England and Wales will make me appreciate it more when the time comes!

  1. America – in particular, I would love to see the Grand Canyon and visit New York on New Years eve…dreamy. I think I might go on a road trip down Route 66 as well!
  2. Mexico – I know that it’s in America but I think it deserves a line of its own. I’ve dreamed of going to Chichen Itza in Yucatán  for a while now – I want to visit a Mayan city!
  3. Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany – so I can feel like I’m part of a fairy tale.
  4. Bora Bora – for obvious reasons, (although I think I’ll have to save my money a while longer for this one!)
  5. Venice – because who doesn’t want to stay in a city amongst canals?

Daily Prompt: Being Adventurous!

Daily Prompt: Have you made your bucket list? Now’s the time — write about the things you want to do and see before you become dust in the wind.

I’m not even sure myself right now! But I suppose this is my opportunity to dream and hope, and at some point I will hopefully have fulfilled them!

So here it is – sorry that it’s just a list; I just enjoy reading from bullet points on other people’s blogs so decided to do it myself. Plus, I’m very tired!

My Bucket List of Life:

Small Things:

  • Win a competition
  • Sell a piece of art work one way or another
  • Give something to a homeless person
  • Write down some recipes in that recipe book I’ve had for two years but not yet written in!
  • Go skinny dipping, (again)
  • Hold or stroke a bat, (the mammal, that is)
  • Go to a festival outside of Nottingham!
  • Stand on top of a mountain and sing ‘Let I Go’ as loud as I can
  • Go to the theatre
  • Be part of a flash mob

Medium Things:

  • Pass my driving test at some point in the very near future!
  • Get a part-time weekend or evening job, (which, as I’m sure I’ve said/ranted about in previous posts, I can’t seem to get at the moment!)
  • Find a guy to go on lots of adventures with, and who preferably appreciates McFly and Disney, (and me!)
  • Go on a holiday with all of my onesie friends before we all go our separate ways, (sob!)
  • Go to Germany, practice my speaking skills and visit my exchange partner again
  •  Visit the Neuschwanstein Castle whilst I’m there
  • Meet McFly again!

Big Things:

  • Go to university and study English Language then Journalism, (pretty straight-forward, I’m hoping!)
  • Become a journalist or writer soon after that and love it!
  • Buy a small house or apartment, refurbish it in my own special way then rent it out, (this one’s a little random, but hey, that’s what I want to do!)
  • Go on a trip around America and see all the sights, especially the Grand Canyon – perhaps a Route 66 road trip as well?
  • Get married, (hopefully with the same guy!) and wear the perfect red wedding dress I’m always looking for, (that sounded a bit obsessive… but it’s always nice to be prepared!)
  • Have a child or two, (not three!)
  • Buy my own house and make it as quirky, cute and cosy as I can!
  • Have an opportunity to do some travel writing
  • Be happy!

Daily Prompt: Being Intrepid!

Daily Prompt: What’s the biggest chance you ever took? Did it work out? Do tell!

Well, I’m only so far into my life so I can’t say that I’ve had to take any life-changing chances so far…but I’m sure my time will come!

One time, my family and I went on a long walk whilst on holiday in the south coast, (in England). It wasn’t the flattest of walks, in fact, it was really quite hilly. So by the time we reached the beach signifying that we were close to the car park again, I was so relieved. That was, until, we realised the sea was coming in. And that would mean we would have to take the long route around – over two more hills. The time came for me to take a chance, even if it probably was irresponsible. I started jogging across the sand, my family close behind, dog at my heels. The wind rushed past me, the sea roaring in my ears. We were nearly there. I could see the car. Just one last stretch; we leapt over a cluster of rock pools and onto the remaining sand beyond, salty water almost lapping at our feet. And then… we arrived. The feeling of warm tarmac beneath my feet had never been so pleasant. I sunk into the sun-kissed backseat of the car, and sighed a breath of relief and success. I had taken a chance and it had worked out.

Daily Prompt: Being Famous!

Daily Prompt: Have you dreamt of becoming famous? What would your claim to fame be? Comedy? Acting? Writing? Race car driving? Go!

Well, I can cross comedy off the list! My stand-up humour probably isn’t the best out there! And as for driving… let’s not go there…

I think I would only want to be famous if I was one of those celebrities who is only known by a certain few. As in, people would only recognise me in the street if they were really interested in whatever it is I’m famous for.

Personally, I’d love to be a journalist in a home magazine, and perhaps become known for the quirky and quaint little interiors I’ve designed over the years. Something along those lines anyway! But ideally, I’d want to be recognised as being a travel writer – my dream! Maybe somebody would give me the opportunity to travel the world?

Daily Prompt: Being Chill!

Daily Prompt: After a long day at work or school, what are your favourite ways to wind down and decompress?

Hmm. I have to say, this probably isn’t going to be very imaginative!

Mostly, I arrive home and lie on my bed for about five minutes doing absolutely nothing. I just soak in the silence. Ideally, I won’t have any work to complete and after a while I’ll either continue reading a good book or watch some nail tutorials on YouTube – exciting, I know! In summer though, I’ll normally be found in the garden, soaking up as much sun as possible and drinking something cool and tasty, and preferably fizzy.

One of my favourite ways to wind down though is if we have to travel somewhere straight after college. I love car journeys. The longer, the better. I love watching everything roll by and just dozing off in the back seat. Especially if the suns out. I hope that doesn’t sound too weird…!
