Daily Prompt: Being Handmade!

Daily Prompt: Automation has made it possible to produce so many objects — from bread to shoes — without the intervention of human hands (assuming that pressing a button doesn’t count). What things do you still prefer in their traditional, handmade version?

I think that anything baked, such as cake or scones, are almost always better handmade than when they are manufactured. Being someone who enjoys food, (a lot), I have had plenty experience in the tasting of many shop-bought and homemade products, and I can safely say that my mum’s flapjack would beat the manufactured ones any day! But, to be less biased, I admit that the shop bakery can be quite convenient sometimes!

Daily Prompt: Being Predictive!

Daily Prompt: Back on January 21st, we asked you to predict what day #211 would be like. Well, July 30th is that day — how have your predictions held up so far? If you didn’t reply to the prompt at the time, is this year turning out to be as you’d expected?

Well, I actually just posted this photo in response to the prompt on January 21st:

Although I’m not exactly on a beach right now, I am enjoying my summer holidays and I go away to Cornwall on Saturday for a whole two weeks – woohoo! So I’d say my ‘prediction’, (if you can call it that), is not too far off!

Daily Prompt: Being Human Again!

Daily Prompt: After an especially long and exhausting drive or flight, a grueling week at work, or a mind-numbing exam period — what’s the one thing you do to feel human again?

I think the one thing I do is just carry on with my daily routine like I did before. Although this probably isn’t the most exciting thing to do, it helps me get back into the swing of things and I generally enjoy it – like eating dinner at a certain time, followed by a nice evening of relaxing and not really doing much! I can’t really afford to do anything else!

Daily Prompt: Being Curious!

Daily Prompt: It was sunny when you left home, so you didn’t take an umbrella. An hour later, you’re caught in a torrential downpour. You run into the first store you can find — it happens to be a dark, slightly shabby antique store, full of old artifacts, books, and dust. The shop’s ancient proprietor walks out of the back room to greet you. Tell us what happens next!

“Typical weather,” the wrinkled man smiles at me, making him all the more wrinkly. I nod and smile and do that awkward sort of laugh you do when you can’t think of anything to say other than ‘I know’. He walks behind the dust-coated counter and begins sorting through some papers, letting me take a wander around the strange little shop. I shuffle behind a couple of cabinets, looking at everything from fragile painted teacups to fat stacks of yellowing photographs. I really wish the rain would die down a bit. I come to a little wooden table and stop to flick through the ageing books stacked on top of one another, their covers crimson and adorned with swirls of gold. Their pages are smooth beneath my fingertips and I stop when I come to a beautiful illustration in the middle of one of the books. A laughing girl with bright cheeks and bouncing pigtails is running through a blossoming meadow, her patterned umbrella swinging behind her as little drops of rain splash against her shoes. I brush my fingers over the drawing and laugh in astonishment as the ink girl springs to life, galloping across the page with all the energy of a feisty pony. I must be going mad. I turn to see the old man behind the counter grinning at me knowingly.

“You never know what you will find in this shop,” he chortles. I just stare rather rudely, but he continues anyway. “Why, the other week I think I may have stumbled upon Narnia.”

Daily Prompt: Being Old!

Daily Prompt: “Age is just a number,” says the well-worn adage. But is it a number you care about, or one you tend (or try) to ignore?

I don’t really know – I think I’m too young to be ignoring it! I think that every age should be celebrated, (although I probably won’t be saying that in thirty years time), but I admit I am slightly concerned that in two years time I won’t be a teenager anymore. But still, life goes on and we should try to enjoy everyday, regardless of age!

Daily Prompt: Being a Roadtripper!

Daily Prompt: ‘Tis the season for road trips — if time and money were out of the equation, what car-based adventure would you go on? (If you don’t or can’t drive, any land-based journey counts.)

A road trip along Route 66 will always be my dream in life – of course the only issue would be the money! But, as the prompt says, if time and money were out of the equation I would be one very happy person! I want to visit America anyway and the thought of cruising along Route 66 surrounded by beautiful scenery makes me so excited – I can imagine myself leaning out of the car window, hair whipping around my face, music to match the scene filling the air… hopefully one day it will happen!

Daily Prompt: Being BFFs!

Daily Prompt: Do you — or did you ever — have a Best Friend? Do you believe in the idea of one person whose friendship matters the most? Tell us a story about your BFF (or lack thereof).

I think for a lot of people, (me included), your best friend is the person you have known for the longest – in my case, I have known her since we were both born a day apart in hospital. The thing is, as we grew older and went to different schools, I think we’ve both met so many new people along the way that we could call them our best friends as well. Don’t get me wrong, I still love her, but there’s a few more people I know now that I could happily call my best friends and I see them a lot more often. I don’t think we should be expected to have just one BFF!

Daily Prompt: Being Musical!

Daily Prompt: We all have songs that remind us of specific periods and events in our lives. Twenty years from now, which song will remind you of the summer of 2014?

Definitely ‘Wiggle’ by Jason Derulo. Since starting this National Citizen Service programme four weeks ago, (and meeting loads of new people), it is all I have heard every day and all they have played. It’s in my head right now as I type!

Daily Prompt: Being Awkward!

Daily Prompt: When was the last time you watched something so scary, cringe-worthy, or unbelievably tacky — in a movie, on TV, or in real life — you had to cover your eyes?

I am going to be very general now, and I think anyone would be able to relate to this. The only time I really ever have to hide behind a cushion is when there’s a very, let’s jut say, ‘ intimate’ scene – and you’re watching with your family. I don’t think anything is so awkward!

Daily Prompt: Being an Adult!

Daily Prompt: As a kid, you must have imagined what it was like to be an adult. Now that you’re a grownup (or becoming one), how far off was your idea of adult life?

Well for starters, I thought that I’d have a job by the time I was sixteen. That still hasn’t happened almost a year and a half later, (and it’s not like I haven’t tried) – but I did have an interview today, so fingers crossed! I also thought that I’d be going to loads of parties, (and maybe even have a boyfriend), but it turns out I’m a little bit socially awkward so I’m just happy with the one or two I have been to. But I have made lots of new friends since starting college, so it’s all good! I’m just looking forward to going to uni next year!
